This prayer was written by Eitan Baum for the healing of his mother, Naomi Chava bat Chaya Hendel in Menachem Av of the year 5771 or 2011 by the Gregorian Calendar.  It is very much in the style and wording of Jewish prayer.

Wayfarers Prayer upon Embarking on the Journey of Healing

May it be Your will, merciful and healing Father, to lead me on this journey in peace, to accompany me in peace, to stand by my side and to give me life, health, happiness and peace.

Give me the strength to bear this cancer with dignity, and the power to endure it and be healed.  Protect me from pain, sadness and despair, and from all the discomforts that are drawing near. Send skill, wisdom and understanding to my doctors and nurses, Your faithful messengers, to sow goodness and light in my body. Help the chemicals accurately do their work, rooting out disease and bringing compassion to the healthy parts of my body making room for the good to strengthen and take root.

Wrap me in goodness so that I will be strong of body and spirit, to live a good, full life. Give me the strength to traverse this difficult period with joy and faith - with a closeness to You.

Help me stay mindful of my family and friends who are walking this road with me, and who, with me, raise their eyes to You, Knower of all mysteries.

“The mouth that decrees is the mouth that pardons.” “Because You are the source of all, and from Your hand comes that which we return to you." "The afflicted pray for Your embrace and pour out their hearts before Hashem.

All-high, awesome G-d, I stand before you as a vessel full of submission and fear. I do not understand why I have become sick, but I understand that it is Your will. Grant me the strength to receive Your will with love, and show me the way to find grace, favor, kindness and mercy in Your eyes.

“G-d created a pure heart for me and instilled within me a new spirit.”

Bring me speedily to a great light. G-d’s salvation can come in a moment. Let all disease and evil transform - in the blink of an eye - into goodness and blessings for me and for all Israel, as it is written: “And Hashem your G-d will transform the curse into a blessing, because Hashem your G-d loves you.”

Because You hear the prayer of each person. Blessed are You, who hears prayer.

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable before You, Hashem, my Rock and Redeemer.

This prayer is written by Eitan Baum for the healing of his mother Naomi Chava bat Chaya Hendel in Menachem Av 5771.

A word for The Lord that literally means “The Name”, used by those who do not want to violate the prohibition against calling G-d by name.

Apparently I need some help. My brain can not process the prayer. I am forced to just skim through. As well-intentioned as it was by the author the sheer number of words overwhelms me. It's the same effect, for me, as the lengthy terms and conditions we find on the internet for itunes and other programs. Is it me? I sincerely would like to know. Thank you. And good luck for all who need healing.

I'm just this minute taking a break from the exhausting hospital testing for a tumor in my throat. This prayer came up in my e-mail. I am lifted by these words. Thank you. G-d Bless, Mindy

Regarding "Wayfarers Prayer upon Embarking on the Journey of Healing" written by Eitan Baum in 5771. What's old will be new again, we were told by our Egyptian Guide when on tour in the Temples thousands of years old. Amazing how 'current' this prayer is. Thank you for sending it my (our) way, Belleruth. I re-write sections below as they call to me.

"May it be Your will," because Heaven knows we are not in charge of our own destinies. We do need to be led to Peace if we are to survive this world's ups and downs. Ultimately, if we all could only have "life, health, happiness and peace," strength to bear our challenges with dignity, endure all and be healed as many times as necessary. Yes. We understand we will not be "protect(ed) from pain, sadness and despair," as it must come our way sooner or later. If meant to be, we would like to live a good life, spirit-filled throughout. Especially, I appreciate the reminder to "Help me stay mindful of my family and friends who are walking this road with me."

I, too, "stand... as a vessel full of submission" but for me, I will not fear, in contrast to this author's belief. I do not believe in a G-d who makes me fear when I am sick, but rather understand that it is His will to give me strength to endure, if meant to be, with Grace, kindness and mercy for all to see and appreciate. "Bring me speedily to (the) great light," if it is time, "in a moment" if possible. Otherwise, "let all disease... transform... into goodness and blessings for me" and all who know me, a blessing to others.

Thank you for the lovely prayer. I took a copy of it with me to my second infusion. My son insists on being there. Unbeknownst to him I read it to myself and tears appeared...that is special since I have trouble crying, so I felt myself opening up and connecting with my son in a very deep level. Thanks so much for sharing the poem. What a gift to your mother and all mothers!
