Kiddo’s Have Left, but Lego’s, Odd Socks & Stale Cheerios Still Surfacing… | Print |  E-mail

Well.  So, Thanksgiving has come and gone, and my kids and their families have all left for home (6 adults and 6 little boys, ranging in age from 3 mos. to 9 years.)

My new morning meditation consists of wandering around my silent, peaceful house, in search of random Lego parts.  This is best done by padding around barefoot, as they cannot be seen by the human eye - only felt on the bottom of the foot.

I also invoke all hidden clothing items to come forth and make themselves known -socks, T-shirts and sports bras will be making surprise appearances over the next week or so.

Word to the wise: a favorite hiding place is inside those elasticized sheet corners after the dry cycle ends – whole families of socks can be found tucked away in there.

Very important: do NOT mail these items back prematurely, People!  Because something is going to turn up the minute you do.  So put a lid on your compulsive need to get this done, and just wait it out.  You won’t regret it.

My brain will also be revisiting images of pink-cheeked smiles and conspiratorial laughter between cousins; the funny, honest kid questions that were asked; the holiday songs sung as candles were lit; the wonderful platters of tasty sides and veggies that my kids made; the happy faces of friends coming over and enjoying each other; and, best of all, the many, many generous gestures my kids made, to each other and to me.

I feel very lucky.  I guess that’s why they call it Thanksgiving.

Wholeheartedly wishing everyone this feeling, from whatever people, places and communities generate it for you…. it can’t be beat.

All best,

Just beautiful, Belleruth. You captured the holiday and the things that "leftovers" in this case, objects, do to evoke the joy of time spent with those we love. I am extremely thankful to you and Health Journeys for the unstoppable healing you provide.
